Calhoun County JROTC is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline.
Its focus is reflected in its mission statement "To motivate young people to be better citizens." It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.
The curriculum is facilitated and taught by retired Army personnel. Qualified retired Army personnel are employed by the schools to teach the JROTC curriculum. JROTC teacher qualifications are based on military experience, maturity, stability, and leadership acquired over 20 years of service to our nation. To safeguare the validity of the JROTC program, the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Education endorse the proposition that states recognize that JROTC instructors are certified to teach JROTC and the array of subject areas embedded (e.g., Physical Education, Health/Wellness, Civics, etc.)
JROTC WILL PROVIDE A QUALITY CITIZENSHIP, CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, WHILE FOSTERING PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITIES AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
